Korea has become a significant nuclear exporter with a long list of impressive achievements from scratch.
The nuclear technology of Korea initiated with the introduction of the research nuclear reactor (TRIGA MARK-¥±) in the 1950s and Korea was depending on foreign technology in the 1960s and 1970s.
Beginning from the 1980s, Korea endeavored towards self-reliance of nuclear technology with developing indigenous CANDU and PWR fuels. In the 1990s, it became a full-fledged nuclear self-reliance country developing its own research reactor, HANARO and commercial nuclear power plants such as OPR-1000 and APR-1400 subsequently.
In 2009, first time ever Korea won a contract for a research reactor to Jordan and APR-1400 to the UAE which led to Korea as a significant exporter in the world nuclear market.
